I always travel in jeans for long hauls, is that weird? I can’t stand leggings on a flight, and also I read once that it’s best to take flights in natural fabrics, because synthetics melt into your skin when burned (*shudder*). So I wear 95% and up cotton jeans in a boyfriend cut and am totally comfortable. Most all cotton track pants are too thin for my taste, so denim it is.

Katrina, I'm glad you are chiming in re the jeans on flights issue! Not weird at all. I should've clarified that high % cotton jeans that are more fitted are what I've worn in the past and don't recommend. 'Soft pants' that have give and don't compress like fleecy joggers/leggings and ideally ones that have a slouchier fit (like your boyfriend jeans) seem to be the most comfy! And yeah, natural fabrics always.

This is up there in the all time best vintage finds! I saw an Apiece Apart car coat that looked nice but man, major sticker shock.

Aww. Love your moodboard ! I’m afraid your link to the ever going quest for a wrinkle free shirt is not working. Would love to get it back, it’s also a goal of mine. Thanks a lot

Hi Garance - thank you for reading and for your comment! I just tested the link and it should be working, not sure why it's glitchy, but could you try a different browser? Hopefully it works for you! lmk if you still have trouble.

Your shoes links are much appreciated! I have to replace a few and these are tempting. That coat is dreamy - inspiration for vintage shopping I need to do over the next month or so for a wedding.

Aw thanks, the coat is really a very lucky find. Happy to help if you have any q's about the shoes! I've had them for so many years I feel like they're a permanent part of my wardrobe at this point. 😊

Ah Sofia Coppola! I've made peace with the fact that her films often leave me wanting, but the art direction is always on point and far superior to most films these days. I think Grace Wales Bonner is very chic, and I also love how Georgia O' Keeffe and Barbara Hepworth dressed. There's a really lovely book called What Artists Wear by Charlie Porter that I always reference whenever I need inspiration - unfussiness is a huge part of it.

I have the Bostons with the big gold buckles (a matte brass finish) and I love it! Actually both my Birkenstocks have the oversized metal finish buckles, and it's the exaggeration that I like about them. I love that Birks are one of the few types of shoes that are easily repaired - you can replace the rubber outsole and the corkbed, and you can even buy a whole new corkbed.

Summer is turning into fall here in Australia, and I'm actually really pleased to wear my winter stuff again after putting them away last year. I feel like doing a major sock upgrade but am trying to be circumspect and not rush into it, and I might dry darning a few pairs first!

There's a mood and atmosphere to SC's films that I find very compelling, and yes the art direction is always very well done. She captures ephemeral feelings and emotions so well! GWB is an inspiration indeed; I love her interdisciplinary approach to design.

I am adding your book rec to my list - it sounds wonderful! And re the fashionization of Birks I'm just wary because all too often when a heritage 'old school' brand gets the Fashion treatment ornamentation and novelty goes up, prices go up, while quality goes down. It's an all too familiar playbook that I'm really hoping does not happen with Birks! But yes, I do love the modular repairability of them.

Speaking of socks, apparently they're trending, as are chore jackets (per the NYT)! 😄

I bought a pair of Melbourne-made alpaca wool blend socks last year and they're so heavenly, like walking around with your feet in clouds (and they never make me feel clammy after a whole day!). I'm so tempted to throw out all my old socks and replace them with the alpaca ones, but I think it'll be wise to exercise restraint.

"What Artists Wear" is a really nice read! There's a focus on the artists' political intentions behind their choice of clothes, and it's not just about female artists but male ones too. Hope you enjoy it!

Alpaca blend socks sound indulgent and lovely to wear! I have a few pairs of cashmere socks that were lucky sale finds from years ago that I need to wear more in winter. I haven't bought a great book on style in a while and look forward to reading WAW :)
